Midway Girls Softball 2021 Season Updates

Midway Girls Softball Season Updates

Happy Holidays to our Midway Families,

On Behalf of our Midway Board of Directors, we would like to wish all of our Midway Families a safe and Happy Holiday Season. We hope everyone is doing well and staying safe in the time of this pandemic. This letter is going out to bring all of our families and new members as well up to date as we get ready to celebrate the Christmas Holiday and ring in the New Year. Please read through this entire letter as there is important information for you as we get ready to start the new year.

2021 Spring Registration and sign up

Normally we start our Spring registration in December, but due to the pandemic and restrictions during these Winter months, we have decided to open our 2021 registrations starting online on February 1, 2021. This will allow families to not have to rush to sign up and allow us as a league to continue to concentrate on each of our families. We are looking forward to starting our Spring Season on time and hope by then we will have a full vision of where things are with the pandemic at that time.

Congratulations to our 2020 Summer / Fall Recreation League Champions

This past year was a tough one for everyone. Not knowing exactly what the COVID-19 Pandemic would bring, we held our regular 2020 Spring evaluations and drafts, and before we could get up and going, we were forced to shut down as were other leagues. Our Board of Directors worked hard to try not to make a drastic decision and just shut down for the season as some other leagues did, but also figure out how to postpone and still work together to keep our young players, families, and coaches safe. We wanted to still give our families and players who felt safe enough a chance to continue to play the game they love. It was ultimately decided to suspend our regular season and combine our Spring and Fall Season. Thanks to our Coaches in each division who were willing to come together and do everything we could as a league to safely run this season so our families could get out of the house where they have been stuck and have some fun. This was not an easy task for us as we worked with the Delaware Board of Health to come up with a timeline and procedures on not only how to open back up safely, but also to adjust to the changes that were made weekly by the State. Not only were we affected in our Recreation League, but we also shut down all Travel ball practices and canceled several of our Midway Travel Home Tournaments. As we continued to work back and forth with the Delaware Board of Health, we also had to work closely with New Castle County who is the lease holder on our Complex and some of the satellite fields we use, as well as with Red Clay School District for their fields. When both closed their fields for rental, we had to work on how to get practices in as well. Not many people are aware but we as a league were thankful that after working with the Board of Health and New Castle County, we were able to open safely and were also the first league that was allowed to hold two Summer tournaments in July. New Castle County used our procedures as a model for the rest of their leased fields and working with USSSA we were able to hold the Summer tournaments with no issues.

I want to thank again all of our Coaches throughout our league who stepped up to the challenge. We are not able to do what we do without you and thank you for your dedication.

We also want to Congratulate our teams in each or our playoff divisions and recognize our Champions in each division. Participation awards were given out to both of our 8U teams, and medals were given to the 2nd Place and Champions in the 10U, 13U, & 14+. Congratulations to each Division Champion.

10U Division = 10U Tigers

13U Division = 13U Tigers

14+ Division = 14+ Tigers

Volunteerism, Coaching, and Board of Director Positions open

First, I would like to say a special thank you to our Midway Board of Directors for all the hard work they do each and every year to keep our league running and one of the best Girls Softball Leagues in the State of Delaware. Not many people in this league know that our Board Members have worked together for many years and have always had representatives from both Rec. & Travel. For many of us our daughters have not been a player in this league for years. This past season we only had one Board of Director who has a daughter still in the league. The members of the Board are strictly volunteer and have continued to support and run this league because of what this league has done for our children and continues to do every year.

During the past year we have had some position changes on our Board of Directors and also still have a few openings. Our Board would like to thank Past President Lori Conaty, and Past Vice President Tami Quirk. Lori and Tami have been a part of our league for several years with and without their daughters playing, and we thank them both for their dedication for so many years. Even at this time Lori has agreed to stay on as Secretary until someone else is interested in taking that place. Also, during this past year, our Secretary, Meghan Markland, stepped down from the Board as her and her Husband David welcomed a new baby into their family. Congratulations to Meghan and David.

For this year, we welcome our Board Members into their new positions for the 2021 Season.

Volunteer Coaches and Board Members Needed!!!!

As stated earlier in this email we have many Board Members that have been here for many years. We are looking for new families to step up into some of these Board positions to fill the vacancy or at least come on to learn from the current person to train to take over in the future. With myself stepping into the President role, we now need a Recreation Coordinator and an Assistant Recreation Coordinator as we move into this year. In addition, our Treasurer who has served in that position since 2002, is retiring in June and we need a replacement. If you are interested in finding out more about any of these positions, please feel free to contact me at 302-293-7713 or Email [email protected].

We need your help as Board Members, Coaches, or Field Crew members to help us continue the league as we have in the past and further build on this great experience for our girls moving forward.

Thank you and Happy Holidays to everyone,

Respectfully,

Terry M. Casson

President, Midway Girls Softball
