To the Players, Parents, Coaches and Friends of Midway Girls Softball,

We hope all of you and your families are as safe and well as can be expected during this extremely trying time caused by COVID-19. We know that all have concerns as a result of school and business closures and the many restrictions limiting us to mostly staying home at least until mid-May.

In light of this uncertainty, the Board met last night and has decided to postpone the start of the 2020 Midway Girls Softball League Recreational Season until approximately August 15, 2020 with an expectation that the replacement 2020 Summer/Fall Season will run until about mid-October. We believe it best not to cancel but rather still have a softball season that will hopefully provide a needed outlet for our players and their families once these restrictions have been lifted and we are all able to return to some normalcy.

Obviously, this decision is not without complications, and we will need your continued support and cooperation. Midway Girls Softball has operated for more than 30 years through the fees paid by our player families and our many Sponsors, as well as all the unpaid volunteers from our League family. With the required costs for insurance, equipment, field care and maintenance, repairs, and utilities, we cannot do this without your fees and sponsorships. We hope our plan will work in the best interests of our player families and help keep the League viable for coming years as well.

We are asking that you please consider applying the 2020 Spring fees you’ve already paid to either the 2020 Summer/Fall Season or as a credit toward the 2021 Spring Season. We know that many may be experiencing a hardship during this time and a refund of those fees could come in handy, but we are asking for your understanding and patience in helping the League continue the best it can under the current circumstances. Due to significant expenses incurred to date and many more ongoing for this year, we cannot fully refund all of your fees without jeopardizing the continuation of the League. If a refund is absolutely necessary to help you, we can accommodate, but we must deduct a $50 League maintenance charge which is the minimal amount necessary from each of you to help pay the required League expenses for this year. If your daughter cannot play in the 2020 Summer/Fall Season and will likely not be able to play next year, we ask that you consider making the fees you have paid to date a charitable contribution to the League.

We will be updating the Midway Girls Softball website (www.midwaygirlssoftball.org) to provide you with more information on the above changes as soon as possible. If you must contact us, we ask that you please not call but instead go to the website drop down menu, League Information, access Contacts and email us directly. We will be sure to respond to you as soon as possible.

Our hearts go out to all who have been affected by these unbelievable events. We also feel for our high school seniors who likely have lost their last chance to play a sport we all love. We know that these are tough times, and we hope it soon ends happily for all of us. The League has provided our girls and many of us with much enjoyment for many years, and we hope that can continue. Please help us do that on behalf of all our players, their families, coaches and friends.
