About Midway Girls Softball

Midway Girls Softball was established in 1986 to promote women’s athletics in the community and to provide young women and girls ages 5 to 18 with the opportunity to further their knowledge of the sport and to compete in regular sporting activities. In addition to teaching the skills needed to play softball, the organization strives to develop in its players a sense of self-esteem, confidence, pride, sportsmanship, motivation and leadership; all traits that will better prepare these young women in life. League games and activities not only encourage a family atmosphere but also provide the girls with an opportunity to enjoy the camaraderie of their peers. We serve over 350 young women annually and are dedicated to improving the lives of those players as well as the quality of softball in New Castle County, Delaware and the surrounding mid-Atlantic area.

Recreational Division

Midway recreational divisions are divided into six age groups. There are no cuts. At sign up, your daughter will be placed into her proper age group according to her age as of January 1. All new players to the league and players moving up to a new age bracket are asked to attend player evaluation day for the purpose of team drafts. Teams are formed in March. Your coach will contact you with your team name, practice times and game schedule. Practices are usually twice a week, with games starting in April and ending in early June.

Travel Team Division

As players improve, they have the opportunity to try out for the famous Midway Orange Crush travel teams. Travel teams represent Midway and Delaware at various tournaments throughout the region. Travel team players may play on a recreational team as well if they choose (additional fee required). Travel team players in the 10U division are required to also play recreational ball.

Coaches and Assistants

Midway supports the development of coaches by funding clinics and courses. We always need coaches and welcome your help. We will provide you with training, literature and encouragement. Try it! We promise that you will have a good time.

Umpires

Midway uses PONY umpires for the 10U, 13U, and 14+ divisions.

Costs

Midway keeps its costs down though its volunteer system. Parents are asked to participate in our annual Field Maintenance Day and to help with the concession stand. Additional activities also require volunteer assistance so contact a board member to find out how you can help our league! The registration fee includes a season of softball, instruction, umpires, uniforms (hat and shirt), equipment usage (bats, balls, helmets, catchers equipment, bases, tees, etc), insurance, field maintenance, and administrative coordination. Each player needs her own glove and white pants.
